Auction and its benefits
by: S.M
An auction is basically a public sale wherein any object is sold to the highest bidder. It can be defined as a process of purchasing and selling things by offering them up for bid, taking bids and selling the things out to the highest bidder. This is what is generally the case. However, a sale to the lowest bidder may also take place, in cases where land is sold for non-payment of taxes to anyone willing to take it for the shortest term; or where a contract is offered to an
individual or party willing to take it for the shortest term; or where a contract is offered to an individual or party willing to perform it at the lowest price. Such cases too seem to fairly come under the purview of the term ‘auction’.
In case of auction the seller presents the products on a public platform. The selling price of the products are
determined by the bids or offers of buyers interested in buying them based on their individual estimation of value of and need of the products. The person offering the highest bid at closing of auction receives the right to purchase the products at the bid price. The winner of the bid is normally legally bound to buy the item auctioned. In recent times auctions have been conducted online.
The benefits of auction are many. Some of the significant advantages are:
a)The auctioned item fetches the highest price in the given situation. Thus, in a way there is the maximization or optimization of profit.
b)At an auction the goods are almost certainly disposed off after bidding by their sale to the highest bidder. Hence, this serves as the right podium for disposing or selling out
of accumulated goods. Otherwise, business could have become stagnant due to the stocking of these goods. Certain items could also have perished (in case of perishable goods) or expired if not sold out in time.
c)In case of auctioning a variety of articles may come up for sale, which may not be otherwise available in the market. The buyer can get quite urprised by looking at a treasure trove of antique articles available at an auction.
d)An auction can also be considered as a method for estimating the value of certain commodities which have hitherto undetermined or variable prices.

Internet Auction Sites : Find Good Deals on Almost Anything
by: John Lenaghan
You can find good deals on almost everything you need on internet auction sites. There is almost nothing that you can’t find over the internet. You can find great deals on Avon collectables, collectable toys, sports memorabilia, or anything else that you can think of on auction sites such as ebay.com and ubid.com.
Most people think of eBay when they think of online auctions, but Ubid has everything that you could need in an internet auction website. There are many things that you can find on Ubid that you can’t find using traditional stores.
You can find out of stock items, specialty collectables or many other items on websites such as Ubid, eBay and Yahoo Auctions. The advantage of sites such as these is that you’re fairly assured of getting the fair market value for your items. This is good for both the buyer and the seller.
These types of websites can sell items for you that are hard to sell outside of an internet website. If you have a lot of items to sell, but can’t afford a storefront, don’t want to sell items on consignment, or live in a smaller community, you can make a lot of great deals selling your items in online auctions.
You Can Sell Your Items on Ubid
Many different types of items are sold on Ubid and eBay. Collectables generally do very well on Ubid. Many collectors watch the internet websites for great auctions. You can also find deals on anything you need on eBay or Ubid.
There are some differences from one auction site to another, so if you’re used to eBay it pays to spend a little time getting to know the way the other sites work. For example, Yahoo Auctions automatically extends the ending time of an auction if there is a bid in the last couple of minutes. This prevents last-second sniping like you often see on eBay.

eBay: What Should I Sell?
There is an art to picking profitable products. It's not just what you want to sell but rather what will sell. Unless you pick a product in demand in the marketplace, you will fail. A fundamental principle of the capitalist system is "supply and demand". It represents a delicate balancing act between "what people want" and how much of "it" is available.
Every Christmas, we see one toy that everyone wants. One year is "talking Elmo" and the next year it's something else. But, it never fails to occur. Because everyone wants "it", so "it" is in high demand. If the supply of the product isn't sufficient to meet the customer demand, prices soar, as do profits for the people selling them.
You could hope you pick one of those products and make a lot of money in one season, or you can be smart and have a profitable business all year round. How? Understand trends in our society and how they help you predict the products which are or will be in demand, now and in the future.
Current Trends In American Society
By reading and watching current news, we should be able to spot trends. These trends will have an impact upon people and therefore, the products they need or want. For instance, some current trends in the United States are as follows:
· Americans are fatter than prior generations (particularly children)
· Baby Boomers (a very large potential market) are getting older. Many are in the 50s or 60s.
· More and more people purchase online from the security and comfort of their own home
· Americans are more security conscious since 9/11
· Travel by car or recreational vehicle is up over previous years
· Diabetes is making major inroads into the general population
These are just some of the trends impacting our culture now. We need to take those identified trends and make some assumptions about them. With these assumptions come product decisions, profitable product decisions.
Using a Trend to Pick Profitable Products
Let's choose the Baby Boomer trends upon which to focus. We know that the Baby Boomer Generation represents a large, and very wealth, segment of the current American society. If we choose to focus upon this group of consumers, we know we have a large potential audience. More importantly, we know we have an audience who can pay.
Determining the products we will offer starts with making some assumptions about our targeted market. What does that mean for the Baby Boomers? We need to take what we know about that market segment and then make some assumption based upon that knowledge. Let's try.
What We Know: What We Can Assume:
We know they are getting older. We can assume they don't like that. We know they are fatter than prior We can assume they don't like that generations. and want to do something about it.
Let's just look at those two trends and how they help us choose products. If this generation is fatter than the last generation, we can assume larger size clothes are needed right now. Is that true? At eBay, plus size women's clothing sold for a total of $90,903.37 in the last 30 days! There's a profitable product selection for the present.
If we assume they are fatter and don't like it, they must want to do something about it. What might they do? Exercise or diet. What does this mean for possible products? Exercise equipment or diet pills. Is this true? At eBay, exercise equipment sold for a total of $1,125,144.50 in the last 30 days and weight loss pills sold a total of $130,795.34 in the last 30 days! Two more profitable, "in-demand", products at eBay, right now.
Choosing the right product for a profitable business does not have to be difficult. Just follow the four easy steps; analyze, assume, test, and choose. You simply have to read and watch the world. Look at leading news articles and magazine stories. What appears to be uppermost in the minds of potential consumers? What assumptions can you make about the trend? What product(s) does that translate to? Sell that product and you will earn money. Continue to follow those four steps and you will be profitable for a long time.

Auction Seller Guide To Success
-by Leroy Chan (c) Leroy Chan - All Rights reserved http://www.AuctionSellerGuide.com
When its time to clean-up around the house, some people have a hard time deciding what to keep and what to throw out.
What they need is an incentive.
How about collecting cash from stuff that was collecting
dust?
You can do this by auctioning-off your unwanted or no longer needed items on eBay. eBay is the largest online market place of its kind. If you are considering this, then you need to gain some basic knowledge of the listing process.
Here is a 10-item checklist to go over before you begin selling:
1. Look at Other Seller Listings
Do a search for your item. See how other sellers list the same or similar item. Take mental note of the category, the title, the description, the photo and the pricing.
2. Choose the Most Appropriate Category
Make sure your item is in the most appropriate category.Avoid placing it in a category where it doesn't belong.List your item in the wrong category, and people looking for your item will not find it. Let eBay suggest the category for you, if you are unsure which category your item belongs.
3. Write an Accurate Title for Your Listing
Make it easy for buyers to find your item in a search by writing a precise title of it. Be as exact and detailed as possible so your item can show up in broad keyword searches too. Avoid using hype words like "Best," "Great," or "Fantastic." Putting these words in the title will not help buyers find your item because they don't type in these types of words in their searches.
4. Set Your Price Low Entice your buyers by starting at a low price.
Set a reserve price in your listings so you don't have to sell it when the auction ends at too low of a price for you to make a profit.
5. Give Plenty of Time for Your Auction
Let as many people as possible see your auction. Set the duration for five or seven days so weekend buyers will have a chance to bid on your item too.
6. Show a Photo of Your Item
Take a digital photo of your item and post it wit your listing. Let your buyers see what they are bidding on.Allow the photo to help you sell it. Having to see something first before you buy it is only natural. Apply
this same principle to online auctions. Buying a digital camera is a good investment these days and instructions on loading pictures up to the eBay site are simple enough that there really is no excuse not to have a picture.
7. Give Buyers Plenty of Payment Options
Make it easy for the buyer to pay. Providing as many payment options as available is better. Place in your item listing your own merchant account or credit card processor information. Sign up with Paypal if you don't have your own merchant account. Let buyers pay by check or money order if you don't provide payment through Paypal or credit cards.
Including all payment options leaves no buyers behind.
8. Be Clear on Shipping and Handling Information
Avoid troubles or negative seller feedback by stating upfront your shipping costs. Mention this clearly in your listing. Include your return policy.
9. Give Contact Information
Gain the buyer's trust by freely stating your contact information. List your email, phone number or mailing address.
10. Keep on Testing
Review the auctions that have ended. Learn from the wins and losses. Try changing the category, title, description or price if it didn't sell. Testing the individual elements in the auction process is critical to your goal of becoming a successful auction seller.

Don’t be a Victim of Online Auction Fraud
By Stephen Bucaro
The Internet Fraud Complaint Center (IFCC) reported that last year 7.7 million dollars was lost through online auction scams. The actual losses are much greater. Most auction scams are not reported because they involve only small amounts of money.
Most auction Web sites are aggressive at fighting fraud.eBay has a fraud investigation unit that has helped them hold down fraud to only .01% of its transactions. If you paid for an item and never received it, or if you received the item but it was less than what was described, eBay's
Fraud Protection Program will reimburse you up to $200, minus a $25 processing charge. In order to qualify for Fraud Protection coverage, you must submit an Online Fraud Complaint with eBay after 30 days and before 60 days from the time the auction ended.
After making a purchase, buyers can leave feedback about their experience with the seller. Before you bid on an item, check the seller's feedback profile by clicking on the number next to the their User ID. There is also a feedback forum and discussion board.
Below are a few actions that you should take to protect yourself from Internet auction fraud.
- For a high cost item use an escrow service.
- Avoid sellers who request payment by electronic transfer.
- Never provide your Social Security Number or Drivers
License Number.
- Verify the delivery data and the sellers return policy.
- Review the online feedback on a seller.
- If the seller is a business, check with the Better
Business Bureau www.bbb.org.
- Prefer sellers who accept credit card payments. When you use a credit card to pay for a purchase, federal law limits your liability for an unauthorized charge to $50.
You can also request your credit card issuer to make a charge-back.
- Be cautious about buying from a seller in another country. If you buy from a seller in another country,
understand the difference in laws governing auctions between that country and the US.
If you become a victim of Internet auction fraud, you can submit a complaint report with an online form at the IFCC Web site www.ifccfbi.gov. The IFCC will review your complaint and refer it to the proper law enforcement agency.
Internet Auction fraud is a large and growing problem.Take the measures outlined above to prevent yourself from becoming a victim.

3 Unusual Formats For Auctions on eBay
by: Sydney Johnston
eBay users are accustomed to only two "standard" formats for sales on eBay: either the 'regular' auction which involves bidding and waiting; and the Buy It Now, which is an instant purchase.
But there are three other formats that are less well known.
1. Live Auctions
Before eBay, the traditional auction included live bodies in chairs and an auctioneer up front (talking so fast he was frequently unintelligible). Any buyer can still participate in these live auctions via eBay. Live auctions are a hybrid
- a buyer is 'sort of' present in a live setting yet is at home using an Internet connection.
The products for sale are usually expensive and unusual. There are such items as expensive and unique coins, Asian art, native American artifacts, incredible jewelry, costly furniture, memorabilia from major sports stars and even history. Today, for instance, there are documents signed by John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, James Madison and Ulysses Grant (he confides that he was strenuously opposed to the
"wicked" war with Mexico).
If you choose to participate in a live auction, be certain that you register first because you can't just drop in on a whim.
You can find all the details here: http://www.ebayliveauctions.com
2. Private Auctions
Private auctions are similar to the typical auction that we're all familiar with except for one detail - the identities of the bidders are kept secret. Only the seller has access to the names.
Why would anyone create a private auction? It's usually for one of three reasons:
* The item is quite expensive and buyers might be uncomfortable having others know they can afford such merchandise. Their concern about their financial status is most likely misplaced because it is quite possible to
distance yourself from eBay contact information, but much of selling is about perception.
* The buyers might be embarrassed by the nature of the merchandise.
* Some sellers habitually use private auctions to make it harder for their competition to snoop on them.
3. Restricted Access Auctions
This is usually for sales of "adult" items. The main purpose is to prevent children from seeing this kind of merchandise, and is similar to having covers on racy magazines at store checkouts.
To bid on these items, the buyer must:
* Be 18 years old
* Must have supplied credit card information to eBay.The theory is that no one under 18 can get a credit card and therefore cannot get into these sections.
* Agree that he is voluntarily accessing restricted access auctions
In addition, restricted auctions are excluded from the Featured pages. So if you are a seller using this format, your listing will be harder to find.
Even though they are less well known, these three formats for auctions on eBay still account for tens of millions of dollars in sales each year. If they suit your business model, you might consider them.

An Introduction to Ebay Selling
by: Jason James
Success in any business is built on a foundation of customer service. eBay is no exception - every day thousands of eBay buyers register. I have a simple strategy that I use in all my auctions called the "eBay Welcome". Follow it and your repeat business will grow, along with referrals from those satisfied customers.
1. Pricing Strategy: Don't set your opening bid too high, you want to generate clicks on your auction listing. When buyers browse via the Search Bar, they will not even open your ad to view the description if the price is too high.
When you use a reserve price, it will often create the same effect. Take three minutes prior to listing an item to check Current Completed Auctions to see the average sale price of an item similar to the one you are listing.
2. Offer Multiple Payment Methods: It is a fact that Buyers are more likely to bid on your items if payment choices are easy to use and explained clearly. By using payment methods that are preferred by eBay buyers such as PayPal, you can increase your auction sales. Explain to your buyers about the PayPal Buyer Protection Program. It protects buyers against fraud or material misrepresentation up to $500.
If you are willing to offer alternate payment methods; such as money orders or wire transfers, state that in your auction description.
3. Shipping: It is reasonable for you to make a few dollars on your shipping and handling; but if your charges are excessive, it will turn off potential bidders and give you a bad reputation.
The quickest way to get great feedback is to ship your item quickly. Top eBay Power Sellers strive to ship within one day of payment.
4. Offer A Fair Return Policy: Your return policy must be clearly stated - this will save potential conflicts in the future. We want to extend a "eBay Welcome" to all buyers. We were all novice users at one point.
5. List Warranty Services In Your Auction: If you sell computers or electronics on eBay, you can now give buyers assurance and peace of mind by offering them a standard warranty or extended warranty via the Warranty Services program. Click their Link to join - it is free!
You will be given a cash incentive for any buyer that purchases this warranty coverage on any of your auction items. This can really add up at the end of each month.
In conclusion, give your Buyers the "eBay Welcome" and watch your business grow!

A Simple Secret Way to make money on Ebay
by: EbaySteve
Making money on Ebay can seem difficult, to say the least. Yet at the same time you hear fabulous stories of people who have made zillions from the mighty Bay. So how in all that's Holy have they managed it?! Good news, Bay kids, EbaySteve is here to answer the most pressing question on the minds of all ebay fans - what is the 1 simple secret way to make money from eBay!!
As you will have noticed, there are basically 3 types of sellers on eBay. The pros selling small numbers of high value stuff, the pros selling high volumes of low value 'hot' gear, and the amateurs, selling one offs and small runs. Unless you have it set up as a pro business, you probably spend a LOT of time searching thru firesales, trunk sales, junk shops and classifieds for the items you are interested in - the things you intend to sell. This use of your time may not be the best, dudes! How would you like to know a smokin' way to leverage your time and cash in on existing hot markets on the mighty eBay?!
Well here you go. EbaySteve likes to find a hot sector of the 'Bay that's selling real fast. Go to the main page and check out what's hot. All you THEN have to do is knock up a tiny report (PDF format is best) on that very subject, and offer it up for a mini price - a couple of bucks or thereabouts. This ain't so hard as it sounds - if you try, I'm sure you can write a few hundred words about a particular topic, and maybe customize an image or 2 for the report. If you really can't write for toffee, try using paid article creation specialists - elance.com and rentacoder are good places to start, or you could even tickle me at www.ebaysteve.com and see if I am interested in sharing some of my fab collection of eBay articles with you!. If you go the rentacoder route, for a few bucks they will create you a report on the topic of your choice that you are free to use. Now here comes the clever bit. EbaySteve tells you to embed links to affiliate programs within the report.
So at one point on your report about custom Hogs, for example, you might embed a link to Warner Harley shops, using an affiliate link from CJ.com, Tradedoubler or a link to Harley books from the Amazon affiliate scheme. If anyone buys the book and clicks the link, there's a chance you will earn commission on it. Best of all, these affiliate programs offer free imagery for the links and that can make your report look real pro! EbaySteve likes to put 2 or 3 links in his reports, and tends to use text links so they can fit seamlessly into the main text of the report. As these links can be hyperlinks, the url it points too won't be visible, so you can make the text say something like 'More Info'. That usually get's 'em clickin'!
And that's it! People interested in the hot topic will buy your ebook report, because its cheap, and they will probably want info on the subject. Once they download it, they will click on the embedded affiliate links, and maybe earn you even more money. Simple, huh?!

An alternative to Ebay
by: R.P. van der Meij
People buy and sell on the net. It is better than advertising in a newspaper or spreading the word that you are selling something. But sometimes you just want to sell your stuff for a price and thats it. And you dont want to fill out endless forms with useless info about everything you do and so on. Than join a community pay fees for listing, seller fees and all other hidden fees you missed. Wouldn't you like to find a simple way of advertising your stuff ? You know, place an article, set a price and confirm your ad and be done with it. Just one simple flat fee for everything. And advertise for a long period for a low price. Is it possible? Or is it a dream? The answer is YES you can! Where? Find a new and different way of selling on www.52marketplace.com
www.52marketplace.com is a proven concept from Europe on selling the easy way on the net.
Let me tell you something about this concept. First you choose your catagorie where you want to place your ad. Simple ! Select your state and county where you live. And then place your ad. Confirm your ad, and you are done. You don't have to register to sell or to buy. If the item that you are selling is less than $200 you can place it for FREE. Your ad is shown for a minimum of 30 days. When you are selling something for more than $200 you pay $7.50. Thats it! No fee for listing, no fee when it is sold, nothing. How does that relate to other (auction) sites ?
Lets sell your car for $1000 . When selling it on www.52marketplace.com you pay $7.50 and it is listed for a min. of 30 days and max.60 days. Other sites are charging you $40 for 1 week.(cardealers can save a fortune this way)
If you are selling your house on www.52marketplace.com again you pay $7.50 for a min. of 30 days and max. 60 days . Other sites are charging you more, up to $150 .
Now here is a fun part on www.52marketplace.com , you can place your ad on top of the list again for a small price. If someone is looking he will see YOUR house, car or what ever you are selling on top of the list , (where you want to be if you are selling) when he is browsing. You can do that as much as you like with no restrictions. Thats how you sell quickly and easy. So you see there is another way of selling your (used) items on the net. Visit the site and try it. During the introduction week you can place every ad for free on www.52marketplace.com

Ebay Selling 101: Things A Seller Should Know Before Selling On Ebay
by: David Riewe
Nowadays, eBay is becoming a fast increasing market for online shoppers. It gives them the convenience and feasibility of shopping online.
However, it is the seller that benefits most of the time as they find selling things on eBay a lucrative way of earning additional wages. But before a seller logs in and sell his or her items on eBay, there are some things that needs to be done first, here's how:
1. Sellers must know the rules.
It is extremely important for sellers to know first the rules and regulations of eBay concerning items to be sold and the transaction method. This is one way of protecting themselves so as to avoid fraudulent activities.
2. They should know their market.
Before selling, a seller should first contemplate on what type of market is she or he aiming at. If the sellers know who their target market is, it would be easier for them to think of effective words to use on their descriptive title and the details of their items.
3. They should know the selling fees.
It's a must for them to know how much the selling fees of eBay are so that they may include this on the initial price of their item.
4. They should know the available payment scheme.
The sellers should know these first so that they can assess which type of payment mode are they comfortable with. After all, they should stress this out when posting their items on sale.
5. They should know how to make an account.
It is, indeed, important for the seller to know first the basic procedures of creating an account on eBay before selling an item. No one can go start selling an item right away without having an account on eBay.
They should know how to register first. They can do this by going to the eBay website and set up a seller's account by entering some pertinent information like a valid credit/debit card account or bank account. Though, they may opt for an alternative if they are not comfortable doing this. They may opt to become ID verified as a substitute.
For payment purposes, they should also know how to open a PayPal account.
Also, they should know first what kind of format to use, the category of the item, how to write the title and the specifications of the sale, item description, how to increase the item's visibility, and how to contact the winning bidder before starting to post an item on eBay.
If all of these things are already clear on the seller, then posting an item on eBay will never be a problem. It's that easy!

Getting Great Deals on EBay
by: Lorraine Venner
I love getting a deal. I try to smell them out from miles away. I love frequent garage sales, flea markets, closeouts, and more -- but found that I could much better by simply buying through online auctions - if I shop carefully.
Getting a deal out of EBay auctions is an art. Buying from auctions can be a costly proposition or a very economical option depending on your tactics. Buy wisely by learning from my (sometimes costly) experiences.
1. Is the Seller Trustworthy?
Both EBay and Yahoo auctions have seller ratings. Read these and their associated reviews. If the seller has a great rating from buying and a poor one from selling, you probably don't want to buy from them. Look at both praises and complaints as they may or may not apply to what you are bidding on.
2. Read the Description Throughly
It is very easy to read what you want to see in an Ebay auction rather than what is actually written there. Read both what is in the Ebay description and what is NOT in the description. Often your mind will want to fill in details with what is your dream interpretation. You need to re-read the description until you find out whether what you are searching for and what the seller is selling match.
* Used or New?
Is the item you are buying used or new? If it doesn't say new, you are most likely buying something that is used.
* Real or Fake
Is the item you are interested in "real" gold, sterling silver or pearls? For example, a description saying: "gold necklace for sale" does NOT say 14 kt gold or 18kt gold. That most likely means a gold COLORED necklace which may or may not have actual gold metal. This also applies to pearls as many call plastic fake pearls simply "pearls".
If the seller is selling beads, those beads could be plastic, glass, stone, scrap metal, crystal, chips, wood, clay, gemstone or some other material.
* Item Details
Does the EBay description really say how much you are getting, how long the item is, and quality of the item? Selling by the pound can be a great deal - or a horrible deal.
* Beware of Hidden Costs
Look at shipping and handling costs. I've seen many penny auctions that have $13 or more shipping. Some auctions even have handling fees.
* How Fast Will it Ship?
I've been seeing a fair amount of auctions that note that the product will ship in 2 months or that shipping time is 2 months. If you are buying for a particular holiday, be sure that you will get the item in time.
3. Is it a Bargain For You?
Many times an EBay auction will say that the items are "worth $XXX". In many cases, that price is inflated. Often you can find similar items much cheaper tah "$XXX" at normal stores. (However, the auction price may still be cheaper than you can by elsewhere - it really helps to know how much you usually pay for items!) If you are only interested in some of the items in an auction, adjust your bid to reflect how much you are willing to pay for just those items unless you plan to sell the rest as that is how much you would pay for it elsewhere.
4. Auction Fever
Compare prices on the net at the same time to avoid overpaying. Know that usually you can get the item later elsewhere. Wise buyers know to walk away when the price is higher than the item is worth to them. !
